Important Dates


Key dates in the election calendar vary depending on whether it is a set date election or other election, for example, a byelection.

Point Douglas Byelection


Writ day (start of election period): May 12
The byelection is called.

Enumeration begins: Enumeration begins on May 13.

Enumeration ends: Enumeration ends on May 28. The preliminary voters list is available on May 29.

Revision begins: Revision begins on May 29. Returning officers and revising agents are operating from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm.

Close of nominations: Before 1:00 pm on May 29. Signed nomination papers must be submitted to the returning officer before 1:00 p.m. or they will not be accepted.

Revision ends: Revision ends on June 1. The revised voters list is available the day after revision ends, on June 2. Returning offices remain open from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm.

Advance voting: Open at returning offices and other locations from Saturday, June 3 to Saturday, June 10. Advance voting locations are open from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm (noon to 6:00 pm Sunday). Not all advance voting stations are open on all days.

Last day to apply for absentee voting: Saturday, June 10. Returning officers can accept applications until 8:00 pm.

Last day to apply for homebound voting: Monday, June 12. Returning officers can accept applications until 8:00 pm.

Election day: Tuesday, June 13; voting places are open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Campaign period: From writ day to August 14.

Candidacy period: From the date a person becomes a candidate (usually by winning a constituency association nomination) to August 14.

Deadline for financial statements: October 13. Both candidates and registered parties must file election financial statements with Elections Manitoba.

Note: Important dates that fall on a holiday (Sunday, for example) may be changed to the next working day.

Enumeration begins: Enumeration begins on February 4.

Enumeration ends: Enumeration ends on March 7. The preliminary voters list is available on March 10.

Writ day (start of election period): Writs may be issued any day between March 15 and March 22.

Revision begins: Revision begins on May 4. Returning officers and revising agents are operating from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm.

Close of nominations: Before 1:00 pm on March 29. Signed nomination papers must be submitted to the returning officer before 1:00 p.m. or they will not be accepted.

Revision ends: Revision ends on April 7. The revised voters list is available the day after revision ends, on April 8. Returning offices remain open from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm.

Advance voting: Open at returning offices and other locations from Saturday, April 9 to Saturday, April 16. Advance voting locations are open from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm (noon to 6:00 pm Sunday). Not all advance voting stations are open on all days.
