Assistant Voting Officer Position Summary

The assistant voting officer (AVO) is responsible for the proper administration of the voting process during advance voting or on election day. The AVO records the information in the voting book and assists the voting officer in the conduct of the vote.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Records voters' names in the voting book
  • Assists the voting officer at the voting station with the counting of ballots


  • Competent and reliable
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • At least 16 years of old
  • Must be available to work a 14 hour day (7:30 a.m. - 9:30 p.m.)
  • Persons with a criminal record incurred in the last 5 years do not qualify

As an Employee, the Assistant Voting Officer:

  • Is not allowed to engage in any partisan political activity from the time the oath of office is taken for the position at Elections Manitoba until after election day (such activity will result in immediate cancellation of appointment)
  • Communicates no bias or opinions on the election while at the voting station;
  • Answers only those questions relating to the process of the election (e.g., voting hours)

Fees - We are recruiting for two positions: Advance Voting Officer and Election Day Voting Officer

  • Assistant voting officer - $216.00 per day ($14.35 per hour)
  • Advance assistant voting officer - $ 187.00 per day ($14.35 per hour)
  • Training - $60.00

A T4 slip is issued for money earned.
