Senior Voting Officer Position Summary

The Senior Voting Officer (SVO) is responsible for the set-up of the voting place, proper administration of electoral activities and supervising staff during advance voting or on election day. The SVO is responsible for problem solving and managing issues related to voters, media, scrutineers and election officials. They are the liaison between the voting place and the returning officer.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the set-up, opening and disassembling of the voting place
  • Responsible for maintaining order within the voting place
  • Ensure that the election officials arrive on time
  • Assist the voting officer with processing voters if required
  • Ensures that the voting officer and assistant voting officer have fulfilled their duties, and all documentation is complete and accurate
  • Ensure that the Statement of Vote forms balance, are accurate and complete for each voting station after the close of voting
  • Ensure that the results of each voting station are phoned in to the returning officer
  • Ensures ballot boxes and election materials are returned to the returning office.


  • Competent and reliable
  • Ability to execute sound judgment and tact when dealing with impartiality and effective control of proceedings at the voting station
  • Knowledge of the electoral division
  • Knowledge of the responsibilities of election officials
  • Knowledge of the electoral process and voting rules
  • Must be available to work a 14 hour day (7:30 a.m. - 9:30 p.m.)
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Persons with a criminal record incurred in the last 5 years do not qualify

As an employee, the Senior Voting Officer:

  • Is not allowed to engage in any partisan political activity from the time the oath of office is taken for the position at Elections Manitoba until after election day (such activity will result in immediate cancellation of appointment)
  • Communicates no bias or opinions on the election while at the voting station
  • Answers only those questions relating to the process of the election (e.g., voting hours)

Fees - We are recruiting for two positions: Advance Senior Voting Officer and Senior Voting Officer

  • Senior voting officer - $261.00 per day or $17.35 per hour
  • Senior advance voting officer - $226.00 per day or $17.35 per hour
  • Training - $60.00

A T4 slip is issued for money earned.
