SPRUCE WOODS BYELECTION


The following is a list of important dates for the 2025 Spruce Woods byelection.

JULY 25, 2025


Writ Issued: The election is called and the campaign period begins. Restrictions on government advertising begin.

Nominations Open: Prospective candidates can submit nomination papers to the local election office.

Preliminary Voters List Distributed: The preliminary voters list for Spruce Woods is distributed within 48 hours to registered parties running a candidate and to candidates.

Voter Information Cards Mailed: A voter information card is mailed to every voter on the voters list, detailing where and when they can vote during advance voting and on election day.

JULY 29 TO AUGUST 7, 2025


Revision: Voters can register or update their information online, by phone, or at the local election office. Election officials may visit homes to register voters in this period.

AUGUST 11, 2025


Close of nominations: Completed nomination papers must be submitted to the local election office before 1:00 p.m.

Revised Voter Information Cards Mailed: A voter information card is mailed to voters who registered or updated their information during the revision period.

AUGUST 16 TO 23, 2025


Advance voting: Advance polling places are open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. except for Sunday, noon to 6:00 p.m.

AUGUST 16 TO 25, 2025


Advance voting at the local election office: Advance voting at the local election office is extended until election day.

AUGUST 23, 2025


Last day to apply for absentee voting.

AUGUST 25, 2025


Last day to apply for homebound voting.
Last day to apply for personal security voting.

AUGUST 26, 2025


Election day: Polls are open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

AUGUST 27, 2025


Final Tally: The returning officer completes a final tally of votes, verifying the totals of all votes received.

AUGUST 29, 2025


Declaration of Candidate: The returning officer declares the candidate with the most votes elected.

SEPTEMBER 5, 2025


Return of the Writ: The returning officer certifies which candidate has been elected on the back of the writ and returns it to the chief electoral officer.

OCTOBER 27, 2025
